Add Extensions to Contacts

It’s a common occurrence for a company to use an automated phone system where, when you dial up their number, the automated message states, “If you know your party’s extension, please dial it now.” Having to go to your contact’s notes section and  figure out the extension, or worse, having already put it in your phone as “888-555-1123 x112″ or some other variation, and having your iPhone refuse to dial the number correctly, is rather annoying…

There is a solution!

  1. Launch the Phone app on your iPhone’s home screen
  2. For New Contacts:

    1. Tap on the [+] plus button to add a new contact.
    2. Type the number you want to add an extension to.

    For Existing Contacts:

    1. Tap on the Contact for which you would like to add extensions.
    2. Tap [ Edit ] in the top right corner of the Contact.
    3. Then pick the phone number for which you want to add extensions.
  3. Tap on the [ +*# ] button on the bottom left of the Dial Pad.
  4. Tap [ Pause ] to add a comma (,) — or short, silent wait period.
  5. Add the numbers for the extension, then tap Save to apply the changes.

That’s it you are done. You can repeat this simple procedure for other numbers you want to add extensions to.
